September 17, 2010 from 9am to 4pm – Magic Circle Headquarters
Each year the IAP holds a symposium, usually somewhere in London, for members and their guests to meet up, listen to some good speakers, have some lunch and make new friends or meet old ones. The networking part is almost as important as the speaking and lunch. The aim always is to have speakers on technical subjects, related to IT, but pitched at a level understandable by a more general audience.
Previous symposia have been held on HMS Belfast, the London Transport Museum and Trinity House. This year we will be at the headquarters of the Magic Circle at 12 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2HD near Euston station.
As President of the IAP I am able to bring a number of guests at the members price. For more details please visit

You could save yourself £94 with this offer.
Our speakers:
Peter McOwan
His presentation considers how, in the near future, we may share our homes and offices with new socially aware technologies, assistive robots and graphical companions who will help us work and play.
Keith Errey
His presentation reports on new work using state-of-the-art ultra-low power technology and end-to-end systems that are providing clinical validation of wireless patient monitoring in the hospital.
Blay Whitby
His presentation will address the many social and ethical problems raised in the process of developing new technologies. These problems must be addressed by the technologists themselves without waiting for courts and governments to respond.
Jon Bird and Rachel Cary
Together, they will show how bringing about the low carbon economy will have a major impact on the way electricity is generated, delivered and used. More sophisticated data gathering and communication, using smart meters, can help bring this about cost-effectively.
